Convective Parameterization in the NCEP Models

The teletraining sessions were held in July 1999. The following was a message from Bernard Meisner about the materials which are available from this Web site:

The teletraining materials for my Convective Parameterization seminar are now available here (click the link and then choose "Save File", saving it to your C: drive, or wherever is appropriate for your system). The file is called convparm.exe. It's about 4.5 megabytes in size and will extract about 10.5 megabytes of GIFs, AVI and WAV files. Therefore, please ensure you have at least 15 megabytes of free space on your drive before downloading and extracting.

You should extract the file from the root C: directory, preserving the embedded directory structure. The desired result is a directory C:\Lessons\convparm containing the *.gif, *.ano and convparm.shw files, and a C:\Lessons\convparm\mmedia directory containing the *.avi and *.wav files.

To preview the materials set your screen resolution to 800x600 and start the slide show using the convparm.shw file. Confirm that all the buttons for the AVI files work properly. (I've hidden the buttons for the *.WAV files; if you're bored or adventurous you can look for them !)

I'll be sending you a paper copy of the handouts of the presentation. You may provide copies for all participants at your discretion.

On the day of your scheduled session please start the Telewriter 2000 software, then call the conference bridge (817-978-1800) about ten minutes prior to the start of the session . (However, DO NOT start the slide show on the day of the teletraining.) Remember to set your screen resolution to 800x600 and disable any screen saver. Once everyone has successfully connected I'll start the slide show and switch everyone to the full-screen mode, at which time you can minimize or hide your toolbar. (FYI, the sequence: Right-Button-click W S will toggle the toolbar on and off.)

We've found that standing the speaker phone on edge at one end of the table seems to provide the best sound quality throughout the room.

As always, feel free to call me at (817) 978-2671 should you have any questions.
