DESCRIPTION

This training is related to:

    Meteorology
    Software/hardware

This training is intended for:

    Large group presentation

Topics:

    Convection
    Radar

Subject of the material:

This training package contains three Corel slide shows. They were used in seminars presented across our area (Lower Ohio Valley). The training was created in response to the end of the NIDS contract in that more radar data will be available to EM's. The seminars lasted 4 hours, but even with this length, they were well received. The seminar/slide show has 3 sections. The first contains information on how the WSR-88D works, including VCP's, sampling limitations, cone of silence, AP, improper velocity dealiasing, and precipitation estimation. The second part deals with the products including their limitations and strengths. The final section contains numerous examples of events with details of what is seen on the radar. This includes tornadic, non-tornadic events, damaging wind events, null events, and pulse storms. The final portion talks about the warning and decision process. Response items throughout the training reinforce important ideas.
