WWWboard Instructions

What You Need: Nothing special--all of the software needed resides on the COMET server.

Instructions for Viewing the WWWboard: Click on the link to the mini-conference at the bottom of this page or from the Forum page.

Instructions for Posting Your Own Message: Enter your name, email address, and the subject on the appropriate lines and then type your message in the lower box. Push "Send" when you're done. Your message will be posted as the start to a new thread (i.e., left-justified). The message window will automatically word wrap--it is not necessary to push enter when you reach the edge of the message box.

You can also type in one (and only one) URL in the box labeled "Optional Link URL:" (below the message box) and it will automatically create the hyperlink. However, you must also then type in a title for the URL in the next box ("Link Title"); if you don't, the hyperlink will not be displayed. I've never used the "Optional Image URL:" box, so I'm not sure how it works. When you're done, click the "Post Message" button at the bottom of the form

The only other caution is to think before pushing the "send" button because anyone accessing the site can see the message almost instantly. No flames! If you have sender's remorse, email me so I can delete your message.

Instructions for Replying to Someone Else's Message: To post a response or a follow-up to a message you are reading, click on that message. At the end of the message text is the same kind of form described above in Instructions for Posting Your Own Message. Fill in the boxes as before. The message box contains a copy of the message to which you are replying; put your cursor at the very beginning and start typing there or delete the old message (or parts of it) before typing your message. When you're done, click the "Submit Follow Up" button to send. Your message will be posted under the message of the person you are responding to (like in an outline).

Instructions for Seeing New Messages: To see newly posted messages, click on "SOO Forum" at the bottom of the page.
